Growth Mindset

After reading the article, “The Simple Phrase That IncreasesEffort 40%” I was really intrigued in his findings. Students/people need to feel like they belong or they are doing something right, that they have a purpose. Giving students feedback can result in a negative or positive way. To have an effect on students, teachers need to show the students that they believe in them and expect them to do well. I definitely agree with this because I think people need the reassurance. Being human, there are always thoughts flowing in and out of your mind about if what you are doing is worth it at all. In personal experience, it just makes the student feel better and it will give them that boost in self-confidence.

Improvements

I think changing review weeks to planning weeks is a really great idea. From my experience, time management was the biggest issue. Differing from week to week, my schedules would change so I never had a set schedule on when to write. Having the planning week in the middle of the semester will be really helpful especially if the student needs to change things up depending on what grade they are aiming for. If they didn’t do as well in the beginning of the semester, they have this opportunity to catch up.  I also like the idea of having the story planning option. I found that some weeks it was difficult to write a story because I didn’t know much about that topic. Having the option to do research and look more into that topic is really helpful and can give us more ideas.

Reading Notes: The Singing Bone

(skull and crossbone: Pixabay)

In this story, I thought it was sad how the older brother killed his younger brother just so he could marry the King’s daughter. It shows us how greed can turn a person around and make them evil. I like the singing bone in this story. I could this story in the shepard’s point of view.  Since he was the one that found the bone, I can rewrite his experience and how he finally learned the story behind the singing bone. There can be many emotions expressed by this. It is sad to be the innocent one that gets killed or have your own brother turn their back on you.

Reading Notes: The Twelve Huntsmen

(Lion: Pixabay)

In this story, it begins by describing the king’s son and his bride. His father then gets sick and calls for him. I wonder why he didn’t live with his father in the first place. I can add more to this and explain why they didn’t live together. His mother, the queen, was not in this story as well. I can include her or add in what happened to her. I can also talk about how he met his wife or the love of his life. It would be interesting to know why things are the way they are. I can also add why the King wanted him to marry a certain person. Since there was a lion in this story, I can use him as a different character. The son will soon marry the girl that his father wished he marry and the lion will serve as a messenger between the bride and the son.

Reading Notes: Rapunzel

In this story, they talk about Rapunzel's background and the reason she was taken away from her parents. It then continues to just talk about what happens to Rapunzel. I could write a story that included her background and as she was taken away, her parents would find a way to save her. I want to keep her parents in the story. Her parents then tell the village that if some one can save her they would be able to marry her. Every one was afraid of the witch that took her because she was so powerful that no one tried. One prince came along and was able to save her. They married and Rapunzel was reunited with her parents again. They both apologized for the selfish act they did. The rampion was not worth their daughters life.

Portfolio Introduction

For my project, I will be doing a Portfolio. I think it will be interesting to revise the stories that I have already written to make them better and more enjoyable to read!

A Good Fortune: A story based off of a Jewish fairy tale. A wise father once told his two sons where to find good fortune. Wealth wasn't just going to be handed to them. They had to work hard for it.

Mother Wolf: A story that shows how strong a mother's love can be. It doesn't matter who you are or if you are different. Mother wolf took care of this baby human and as he got older he was taken away. Mother wolf got really sad and decided to go look for him.

The Lion and the Rabbit: This is a fun short story about a lion who comes across a small rabbit that did not show obeisance towards the king. Will the rabbit get punished?

An Oriole's Adventure: Have you ever wondered what an oriole's life would be like? This story takes you through Timmy's life from coming out into this world and finding out new things.

The Magical Ointment: After a day of work, a nurse encounters a man and is willing to help him. His wife had a baby and the nurse is told to rub an ointment on the baby's eyelids. Will she be curious enough to ask what the ointment is for or will she apply it on herself?

All of the stories in my portfolio are quite different. I tried to switch things up a bit. My favorite story is Mother Wolf. I really like that story because it shows the depth of a mother's love. There are also a lot of emotions in that story as well that will keep you on your feet.

Tech Tip: Canvas Notifications

I really like how you can change the notification preferences on Canvas. It is very helpful and convenient. I changed it to things that were more important to me. I usually get notifications for things that are not as important so one bad thing that I do is just skip over all of them and not pay close attention to the important ones. I have missed important notifications/emails by doing that. I really like how canvas emails me right away when there are changes to grades, announcements, etc. It is really helpful and I think this is one of the reasons why it is better than D2L.
