Growth Mindset

After reading the article, “The Simple Phrase That IncreasesEffort 40%” I was really intrigued in his findings. Students/people need to feel like they belong or they are doing something right, that they have a purpose. Giving students feedback can result in a negative or positive way. To have an effect on students, teachers need to show the students that they believe in them and expect them to do well. I definitely agree with this because I think people need the reassurance. Being human, there are always thoughts flowing in and out of your mind about if what you are doing is worth it at all. In personal experience, it just makes the student feel better and it will give them that boost in self-confidence.

Improvements

I think changing review weeks to planning weeks is a really great idea. From my experience, time management was the biggest issue. Differing from week to week, my schedules would change so I never had a set schedule on when to write. Having the planning week in the middle of the semester will be really helpful especially if the student needs to change things up depending on what grade they are aiming for. If they didn’t do as well in the beginning of the semester, they have this opportunity to catch up.  I also like the idea of having the story planning option. I found that some weeks it was difficult to write a story because I didn’t know much about that topic. Having the option to do research and look more into that topic is really helpful and can give us more ideas.

Reading Notes: The Singing Bone

(skull and crossbone: Pixabay)

In this story, I thought it was sad how the older brother killed his younger brother just so he could marry the King’s daughter. It shows us how greed can turn a person around and make them evil. I like the singing bone in this story. I could this story in the shepard’s point of view.  Since he was the one that found the bone, I can rewrite his experience and how he finally learned the story behind the singing bone. There can be many emotions expressed by this. It is sad to be the innocent one that gets killed or have your own brother turn their back on you.
