Reading Notes: Qalagánguasê, Who Passed to the Land of Ghosts

This story is one of the Eskimo Folk-tales. In the story, it talks about a boy whose parents and sister have passed away. He is the only one left living with strangers. He is sad and lonely. He then encounters spirits. These spirits are not evil but nice. He then sees his sister and parents. I really like how this story incorporates shamans. Shamans are individuals that are able to enter the world of spirits whether if they are good or evil. This person is a healer.

I think I would change the characters of this story. It makes a lot of sense to me that the boy was sad and not treated well so his parents came back in spirit form to come take him. This is what shamanism is and I want to incorporate that in my story. I can write about a couple that was really in love and then one of them suddenly passes away. The one that passes away will later come get their partner and go to the spirit world together.
