Reading Notes: Marriage- The Fox Woman

(Moon: Pixabay)

In this story, a hunter finds that a fox woman has been staying at his house when he is gone. She has been doing work around the house like a wife. I think it is kind of creepy because he soon finds an unpleasant odor after he lets her stay there with him for a while. At the end of the story, she leaves. I personally like happy endings, so I could change the main character to be a female and not a male. I can tell the story about her and mention that she lives by herself. She will soon run in to problems and a werewolf will save her. The werewolf is actually half human. They will eventually fall in love and live happily together.

Reading Notes: The Giant Dog

In this story, the giant dog is very protective and will simply attack strangers. At the end, the story is told to explain the reasoning why the inland-dwellers are afraid of dogs. I really like the details in this story. They are very descriptive. I like how the giant dog pretended to be scared but suddenly he attacked all three of the dogs at once.
I can rewrite this story and give the giant dog a chance to tell us why he attacked all of these people.  It's always interesting to rewrite a story in a different character's perspective. Maybe he was just trying to protect this owner. He was extremely smart and noticed that the people wanted to kill him. They were all planning to kill the owner because they were jealous of him. Dogs are usually protective and will do anything to keep their owners safe so we can also incorporate that into the story.

Reading Notes: Qalagánguasê, Who Passed to the Land of Ghosts

This story is one of the Eskimo Folk-tales. In the story, it talks about a boy whose parents and sister have passed away. He is the only one left living with strangers. He is sad and lonely. He then encounters spirits. These spirits are not evil but nice. He then sees his sister and parents. I really like how this story incorporates shamans. Shamans are individuals that are able to enter the world of spirits whether if they are good or evil. This person is a healer.

I think I would change the characters of this story. It makes a lot of sense to me that the boy was sad and not treated well so his parents came back in spirit form to come take him. This is what shamanism is and I want to incorporate that in my story. I can write about a couple that was really in love and then one of them suddenly passes away. The one that passes away will later come get their partner and go to the spirit world together.

Tech Tip: Pinterest Embedded

Tech Tip: Pinterest Board

I have never really used Pinterest before. I have created an account years ago but I never found myself using it. I think I've used it once to find DIY crafts. Before, I thought it was kind of confusing and never knew what to do, but after creating a board for this blog I am starting to get the hang of it.

Week 8 Growth Mindset

(Be creative:Pixabay)

There are a number of growth weakness and strengths that I can relate to in all of my classes. Some weaknesses that I have are staying in my comfort zone, focusing on my grades, choosing what’s easy, and doing things the last minute. I hate admitting to it but I am a huge procrastinator. Some times I feel I work better under pressure but, to be honest, I would rather not do that. It’s just that some times when I know something is due later that week, I can’t seem to wrap my head around it and focus. I really like how this course is designed. We are able to work at our own pace and learn how to prioritize what we need to get done. When this class first started, I didn’t really have a set schedule of how I wanted to balance this class with my other classes but now I think I am finally starting to get the hang of it.

Some of the strengths that I have definitely learned so far from this course are being open to feedback and being ready for things to change. I have learned that feedback is there to help you improve and it should not bring you down. I have also learned that change is good so you should always be willing to try new things. It doesn't matter if you fail or not, just as long as you know you tried. This course has definitely taken me out of my comfort zone and I'm glad it did because I would have never thought of writing these fun stories!

Week 8 Reflections

My experience in this class has been great. I never thought I would be writing so many stories. I think the stories that I have chosen are fairly similar to one another. Whether that is including animal characters or a story that sends out a strong message. I also notice that I tend to lean more towards shorter readings. I like the idea of taking a shorter story and adding a background to it or just small details to make it longer. I think the reading notes really help me brainstorm what I want to write.
I am happy with the stories that I have written so far. I never thought I would have a creative side but when I go back to read it, they are actually really interesting. I like the idea of reading a story and creating one similar to it.

When I read other people’s stories I notice that every one has a different writing style. It is interesting to see how others write. It gives me ideas about how I could write my next stories as well. Some weeks I find myself clueless and brain dead. I would sit there for hours thinking of what to write and nothing will pop up. It really helps to read other peoples stories to give me ideas.
